Erik Desmazieres

Following retrospectives at the Rembrandthuis Museum (Amsterdam, 2004-05)
and the Musée Carnavalet (Paris, 2006-07), Desmazières was the subject
of a third major museum exhibition June—September, 2007 at the Musée Jenisch
(Vevey, Switzerland). World-renowned for its collection of Old Master prints,
the Musée Jenisch focused on the artist's "Lieux imaginaires". The
exhibition was accompanied by publication of a substantial, illustrated catalogue.

See Desmazières' Vues d'Amsterdam, a portfolio of 5 etchings commissioned by
The Rembrandt House in Amsterdam for their one-man exhibition 2004-2005.

Erik Desmazières, a "contemporary printmaker of breathtaking virtuosity" (The Independent, London, Dec. 1993), renders with masterly draughtsmanship subjects ranging from domestic interiors and garden scenes to grotesque fantasies in the tradition of Bosch and Goya.

Recipient of the prestigious Grand Prix des Arts de la Ville de Paris and member of the Société des Peintres Graveurs Français, Desmazières has been described as "arguably the finest French printmaker of his generation" by Robert Flynn Johnson, curator of San Francisco's Achenbach Foundation for the Graphic Arts. He has had numerous individual exhibitions in Paris, London, Hamburg, Rome, Zurich, Osaka, Tokyo; and in the U.S., Boston, Chicago, Houston, San Francisco and Seattle, inter al. His work is found in the collections of the Bibliothèque Nationale, the Rijksmuseum, the British Museum, the Metropolitan Museum, the Brooklyn Museum, and the New York Public Library, inter al.

Fitch-Febvrel publishes Desmazières' award-winning catalogue raisonné, the
third volume of which was published in December 2001.
