Belles de La Belle Epoque
Fitch-Febvrel Gallery press release, May 1982
Fitch-Febvrel Gallery's summer exhibition will be a collection of prints and drawings of Belle Epoque women.
Designating the decades around the turn of the 19th century, the Belle Epoque connotes as well an atmosphere of elegance, wit, and slightly wicked sophistication. The period coincided, moreover, with a flourishing production and appreciation of original prints, due in part to the efforts of publishers such as Sagot, Pellet and Vollard.
Among the artists who celebrated the beauty, accoutrements, and varied pursuits of Belle Epoque women, the exhibition will include works by Robbe, Legrand, Villon, Tissot, Helleu, Somm, Boutet, Besnard and Raffaelli.
